If we truly want to face this NEET crisis, we must put the individuals front and centre.

Understanding the Barriers Faced by Young People

Many young individuals today grapple with barriers that are wider than they are. Picture this: economic challenges, a lack of mentorship, and sometimes even family support are just some of the hurdles they face. Imagine being 18, full of potential yet feeling adrift, with job opportunities feeling like a distant dream.

It’s easy to dismiss their circumstances as merely poor choices or lack of motivation. But let’s take a moment for a reality check. The truth is, many of these young people have been dealt a hand of cards that simply doesn’t favour them. Did you know that nearly 800,000 young people aged 16 to 24 in the UK are NEET? It’s staggering and heartbreaking.
