What Happens If You Fall Behind?
⚠️ What Happens If You Fall Behind?
Falling behind can happen. The important thing is understanding what it means and how to get back on track quickly.
📌 What you’ll learn
What falling behind looks like, what happens next, and how to recover and stay on track.
🧠 What does “falling behind” mean?
Falling behind means you are not keeping up with the expected pace of your apprenticeship.
This might relate to your learning, submissions, off-the-job training, or overall progress.
🚩 Common signs
- Missed or incomplete submissions
- Work being referred multiple times
- Off-the-job training not completed or not logged
- Low engagement in sessions or activities
- Falling behind in Student Progress
🔍 What happens if you fall behind?
If you fall behind, you will not be left on your own. Support will be put in place to help you get back on track.
- Your Development Coach will review your progress with you
- You may agree a clear action plan with deadlines
- Your employer may be involved to provide additional support
- Your progress will be monitored more closely
🔁 How to get back on track
1️⃣ Be honest early
Speak to your Development Coach as soon as possible. The earlier you act, the easier it is to recover.
2️⃣ Focus on priorities
Start with the most important or overdue work rather than trying to do everything at once.
3️⃣ Use your feedback
Focus on EBI points to improve your work quickly and avoid repeat referrals.
4️⃣ Stay consistent
Small, regular progress is more effective than trying to catch up all at once.
🤝 Important: Falling behind does not mean you will fail your apprenticeship. With the right support and action, you can get back on track.
💡 Top tip: Stay on top of your Student Progress and OTJ logging. Most issues start small and can be fixed quickly if spotted early.
