1️⃣ Access Career Journey
You can access Career Journey from the Coaching area of My Portfolio.
There are several ways to begin:
- Open the Coaching Dashboard
- Click Start Journey
- Click Continue Journey if you have already started
- Or select Career Journey from the left-hand menu
🎯 Career Journey is designed to help you think beyond your apprenticeship and build a long-term career plan.
2️⃣ Understand the journey structure
Career Journey consists of a series of coaching sessions that guide you from understanding where you are today through to planning your future career ambitions.

- Stage 1 – Career Baseline
Understand where your career is currently heading. - Stage 2 – Career Exploration
Explore longer-term ambitions and identify future CPD opportunities. - Stage 3 – Skills Gap Mapping
Identify the skills, knowledge, and experience you need to develop. - Stage 4 – Bigger Career Goals
Create plans for what comes after your apprenticeship. - Mid-Programme Reviews
Review your progress and career direction. - End of Apprenticeship Reviews
Assess your readiness for future opportunities. - Career Readiness Checks
Evaluate your confidence and preparedness for your next career step.
3️⃣ Use the coaching tools
Career Journey includes several accessibility and engagement features to help you complete sessions in a way that suits you best.
🔊 Read Aloud
Turn on Read Aloud to have the coach read questions and guidance to you automatically.
🎙 Speech-to-Text
Use the microphone button to respond verbally rather than typing. Your spoken responses will be converted into text automatically.
4️⃣ Complete each coaching session
During each stage, the coach will ask questions designed to help you reflect on your career, motivations, strengths, and future aspirations.
Topics may include:
- Your current role
- Your career ambitions
- Your motivations and interests
- Skills you want to develop
- Future job opportunities
- Professional development goals
✅ The more honest and thoughtful your answers are, the more useful the coaching outputs will be.
5️⃣ Conclude the session
Once you have completed the coaching conversation, you can finish the session in one of two ways:
- Type a closing message and press Enter
- Click Conclude and Get Outputs
The system will then analyse your responses and generate personalised outputs based on the discussion.
6️⃣ Review your outputs
After each session, Career Journey generates a personalised summary of the discussion.
These outputs may include:
- Career insights
- Suggested development actions
- Skills gap analysis
- Career progression ideas
- CPD recommendations
- Future career goals
📄 You can download a PDF copy of your outputs or revisit them later through the Coaching Plans area.
📊 Track your journey progress
Your dashboard keeps track of your progress through the Career Journey programme.
This allows you to:
- See which stages you have completed
- Identify upcoming coaching sessions
- Review previous discussions
- Monitor your career development over time
